4.25+ RATING- I saw some chatter on GR about this book having a Kristen Ashley feel to it and had to give it a shot! Glad I did! I definitely get the KA feel and inspiration but think the book stands on its own as a great, guilty pleasure read and a solid debut! The writing was good, the steamy parts sexy, the characters likable. Sexy ass Jude is going on my best boyfriend list! He is my favorite type of hero, alpha and bossy but kind as well. Did I mention sexy? Umm. Yeah.I thought there was a good mix of romance with some suspense thrown in. I love a hero that has to protect his woman and Jude was all about that.
The book wasn't perfect. Between the 60-80% mark it dragged a bit for me. i skimmed a bit of the details on the decorating. The heroine although likable had just a pinch of annoying to her. Still...I'm on vacation right now and this was a great read to enjoy on a lazy day. Even though I borrowed the copy I read, I went ahead and purchased a copy so I had my own.
For readers that can enjoy the likeness to KA without feeling like the authors own voice isn't strong enough, this is an easy book to like and recommend. It's hard to believe this is the authors debut novel. I look forward to the next book in the series and am excited to see this authors writing develop.

Quick-read with twisty plot and free.......how can you go wrong??
Federal agent, Jude Ortiz meets the woman of his dreams in the last place ever expected >> a raid. Gabby Carpino is decorating a friend's home when they are rudely interrupted by the feds and a warrant to search the premises. One thing leads to another and all that "wrong place at the wrong time" stuff happens and Jude and Gabby end up in each other's lives.
Gabby Carpino comes from a huge family of " in your face " relatives but her own parents were killed in a car crash. She has her issues to deal with and now on top of that she has someone threatening her life. Jude feels the need to protect her and Gabby wants to resist him in her life but her heart says otherwise. Can Jude protect and love her while navigating through her large family? Will he let her into his past life as much as she has let him into hers?
This was a standalone story that does introduce you to the characters in the next books in the series. I was intrigued by Gabby's cousin Tony so I will be reading about him next.
This was an AWESOME first effort by a new writer. I love stumbling across across hidden gems like Gabby does at lawn sales- it just sends a chill down your spine, and like Gabby and her incredible garage this was a book/author that I had hoarded on my kindle for a bit. I pulled it out last weekend and immediately fell in love. This book had everything that I look for in a book great writing and editing, wonderful characters, perfect story and character development, and just a whole lot of fun to read. This book hit the ground running and never stopped until the last word. It was scrumptious! The only thing that I would change (and not really) was that I think I would have liked a tad more dialogue (just because the author wrote it so well) and a tad less descriptions (you could tell the author got stoked on renovating as sometimes the descriptions went on and on, but hey- Gabby/BA can remodel my house anytime!) and a bit more of her own style. Someone wrote that they could see a bit of KA and another author or two- sure, but aren't we all today who we are due to the influences of others? Looking at at Tony's book I could see more dialogue and more of the author's own individual style coming out (so you betcha that I bought it!).
Huzzah for a great first book! And Ms. Asher- PLEASE put up an author's page on so I can add you to my alerts. And PLEASE get another book going? And hey- what about Mac or someone like him? Older guys are hot too!
I would recommend this author to anyone that is looking for a very well-rounded and solid romantic/suspenseful/realistic read.
I got a big ol shove to the shoulders to read this book ASAP and now I gotta go say they were right. )
I loved this book! I'm thrilled when I find a book with my type of Hero and Jude was pretty darn perfect in my eyes. He's the strong silent type as well as dominant, bossy and protective. I loved that the author paired him with Gabby. She was very girly, but not in an annoying way and she had a tendency to ramble. The way Jude handled Gabby was entertaining and showed off his sweet side, as well.
I devoured this book because the story line was really good. It also had great side characters and the epilogue will melt your heart! I'm very happy to see there are more standalone books to the series.
When I took a chance on a new author, I wasn't expecting the book to grab me from the first chapter, but this book did exactly that. Gabby and Jude meet thanks to a case of mistaken identity while he's working a case, and Jude takes that chance to bring Gabby fully into the land of the living.
Gabby's been going through the motions for years because she lost her family, and even her cousins and best friends can't seem to break through. It takes Jude, a bossy FBI agent, to force her into really opening her eyes to the entire world and to learn to live life to the fullest again.
Between the suspense, drama, and laughable situations (house issues and her over-protective cousin, to name a few), this book was a quick read and had me interested from beginning to end.
