I'll admit it. Im in seventh grade, but this book really was awesome. i did not expect at all how well written or how hooked id be. i spent a late night on this one- when I wasnt supposed to. it was a school night, but twelve isnt that bad. Anyways, the writing was absolutely awesome, the plotline hilarious. its a laugh out loud book with all the tropes of middle school. more than a couple times though, my heartstrings were sevevrely pulled.this may not be the usual kind of book i go for, but for me it was a hit. id read it at any age

Fantastic! I loved the characters and the heart of this story. I was inspired by this story of the transformation that can happen when students have teachers and other adults who believe in them. Mr. Kermit, the teacher, changes the most over the story. The core of his character is to be a voice and an advocate for students and that makes a difference for this group of kids especially.
I found The Unteachables to be hilariously funny with a depth of character and themes that spoke deeply to my heart. At times I found it to be charming and other times remarkably sad, It brought to the forefront that everyone counts. Everyone is teachable – even the teacher!

This book reminds us to look past society’s labels, to get to know the real person right in front of you for who they really are. To not let others define you but to search and find out who you are and what you want to be. This book is truly an inspiring book for all ages!

This is a feel-good, funny story that captures the challenges faced by some misfit but bright middle-school students. The story moves forward through the eyes of the main characters and we see their difficulties, including one with dyslexia, one attempting anger management, underappreciation for an artist, an athlete with an injury who is suddenly expected to get good grades, and a tall girl who’s been misunderstood for a long time. And, then there’s Mr. Kermit, their teacher, who got into trouble some years ago and basically stopped teaching, and the villain, the local car dealer who caused the trouble. Every character undergoes a change in this story. It’s quirky and the characters get into scrapes, but you’ll quickly become caught up in the drama and be rooting for the good guys. Great book. The story shows there’s a group for everyone in middle school, even the unteachables. (For special ed teachers, too, this is a great book.)

But the school’s superintendent has different plans for Mr. Kermit. Gordon Korman has written a charming story of a teacher who desperately needs the right kids to remember why he fell in love with teaching and the kids who need a teacher to see them, listen to them, and help them find their paths. Written in alternating points of view, the story of a school year gone right is uplifting, sweet, smart, and it draws you in from the very first chapter. I highly recommend this book for anyone who struggled in school, who felt like a misfit or an outsider, or who wants to remember what a gift a truly caring teacher can be. The Unteachables is not to be missed!

Have only read 4 Chapters to my Year 7/8 Class, but it already has their interest. Obviously written by someone in touch with the real world. Top read!
The first half was better than the second. The ending was kind of hurried, not like his best books. But still a good read.
I’ve been a fan of Gordon Korman for a long time, ever since laughing out loud while reading his original Mcdonald Hall books. Some of his more recent series have disappointed, as they seem formulaic and trite. This book is mature Korman. The humor is there, and the human nature. Characters grow and develop. There is plot and insight and sensitivity. Worth reading for adults and children.
